The port of Mērsrags is one of the smallest ports in Latvia, which is developing dynamically, both by rapidly attracting new commercial cargoes (timber, sawn timber, wood chips, peat, etc.) and by strengthening local traditions in fish processing.
In 1994, the export of pulpwood cargo from the port of Mērsrags was started. Starting from 1996, the volumes of sent firewood through the port of Mērsrags have gradually increased, reaching 214.6 thousand tons in 2000. tons per year or 30.5% of the total timber cargo turnover of Latvian small ports. The second most important type of cargo is currently wood chips, the export of which was started in the port of Mērsrags in 2000. A certain amount of fish production is regularly transhipped in the port.

Location of the port: to Talsi - 45 km, to Tukums - 45 km, to Riga - 95 km. The nearest railway station Stende - 50 km, Tukums - 45 km. The territory of Mērsrags parish is crossed by national roads: Tukums - Kolka and Stende - Lauciene - Mērsrags.
The total area of the Mērsrags port territory is 78.35 ha, of which 10.19 ha are occupied by the water area.
